Follow these tips while using Public WiFi to protect your information:
i. Don’t visit sites not using HTTPS;
ii. Log out of accounts after you finish;
iii.. Use a VPN to make your public WiFi connections secure;

4. Tether your Smartphone
If you only need to connect one device to the Internet, the fastest and easiest way to get online is to tether your Smartphone directly to your computer using a USB cable instead of creating a WiFi hotspot. In tethering, you will still use your mobile data to access the Internet. There are a few advantages of tethering over the WiFi hotspot method like the device will be charged by the computer, it is more secure as nobody can hack into your network and you may even get faster speeds.
To enable tethering on an Android device, go to Settings >Network and Internet>Hotspot and Tethering, then slide the toggle to ‘On position’. The iOS users must go to Settings > Personal Hotspot and then slide the toggle to the On position.

WiFi dongle is a very affordable and less expensive device for accessing the Internet compared to paying to a long-term Internet service provider or paying for a long-term mobile Internet plan. Although public WiFi is available in popular public places like airports, coffee shops, malls, restaurants, and hotels, it is not secure. For a secure connection to the Internet, while you’re away from home or your workplace, you can carry a WiFi dongle.

These SIM cards are not meant to go in a mobile phone. Once connected, the portable router would create a WiFi network wherever you go without needing an Internet service provider. With a sufficient data plan, you can use this WiFi without an Internet provider, for all your Internet needs whether outside or inside your home. I feel like I learned a lot but I am still wondering if my unlimited data plan for my phone would work with three other roommates who are pretty much always online. We have cameras that also requires constant wifi. Also, if my phone isn’t at the house will it work using that other thing you mentioned? Freedom POP?

Hi Corinne,
If you are subscribing to an unlimited data plan your mobile Hotspot will act like an internet provider. It creates a WiFi network to which your other roommates can connect their devices, if their devices are within range, to access the Internet. For this, you are to share your hotspot password with them.

You can use it that way or through a mini wireless router which is the other option other than using your phone for tethering or a wireless hotspot. The only issue with that is, a LOT of bandwidth is going to be used between your house mates, camera, and your phone also. A lot of phone companies cap you when a certain amount of data is used. Some only allow you to use 10GB which is not a lot. That can easily get used in a day. You could buy more space, but it will get extremely costly.
